North Carolina is one of our favorite destinations. From the ocean to the top of Grandfather mountain to that tiny mountain town just northeast of the Georgia state line.
We like visiting in July when the air is warmest, and so is the water. We like hiking to the craggy crest and looking out over a vast area of heavily forested mountains as far as the eye can see, but we prefer cooling off in swim holes and waterfalls. For my resources I use http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/ I wish every state had this sites author! I will let you know when his book comes out.
We especially liked the Transylvania County area and Bryson City's Deep Creek Tubing. We have camped for a whole week just at Deep Creek, but dont feel comfortable elsewhere. (Bears) But Chalets and little cabins are easy to find and usually cheaper than a chain hotel.
Happy Hiking
