Granma's Tornado Pack

Granpa Rocks has his Winter Car Pack And his Summer Car Pack. But Granma Rocks has her Tornado Pack
Yeppers! Like a true scout, Granma likes to be prepared. I have to admit, that during my Christmas shopping trips, I buy batteries for the most important item in my tornado kit, the weather alert radio. Its not very effective to have dead batteries if the power goes off.
Actually, I used my weather alert two days ago, when our power went out during the tornado's that passed through Tennessee. If I had not replaced the batteries during Christmas, I would have had no idea, what level of danger existed for eight full hours.
We usually have a few days advance notice of impending severe weather.I like to be fully prepared. I make Ice for the cooler, and make sure we have plenty of canned goods, that are quick to eat in the event of power outages. I also gather my Coleman Cook Stove and Lanterns, as well as Fuel Canisters. To keep it simple I just place my camping tub in my kitchen, it contains all my camping cookware, dishes, utensils and etc.Andf dont forget plenty of bottled water!
I also make sure my cell phone is fully charged and everyone is home, showered and dressed with good running shoes on at least 4 hours before the eta of severe weather. Granpa is self employed so its easy for him, school is a little more complicated. If I feel very uneasy about the approaching front, I will pick the kids up early.
So what is in my tornado pack? My weather alert radio, a battery operated T.V., to keep up with the local weather reports and radar, my lap top, prescriptions, flash lights, extra batteries and my camera.
Everyone in the house knows where our safe place is and is prepared to calmly go there at any given moment.
I may be a little over the top, but better safe than sorry.
